01-03 Feb Traveling to the other side of the world

arrival in Shanghai
ready for take-off
We caught the 5pm sailing from Swartz Bay and headed to YVR for our flight that evening. We had lots of time, as we weren't scheduled to depart until 00:30 the next morning. The flight to Shanghai went smoothly, seats were good, the food above average and the in-flight entertainment was decent.

It was early morning on Sunday when we landed 12.5 hours later, missing February 2nd (Groundhog Day) altogether. The terminal building at PVG was fairly new but lacking in facilities for a world city, which made our 8.5 hour layover rather dull. We ate a meal at a Korean-style restaurant, not sure whether it was breakfast, lunch or dinner time, but we were hungry - then slept for a while on benches at the quieter end of the terminal. Excited for the final leg of our journey, we boarded our next flight and were over Sri Lanka about 7 hours later, just as the sun was setting over this island nation.

We crossed the east coast near Batticaloa and circled over Negombo, the airport north of Colombo.

Our transit through the airport was swift and with a 30 minute cab ride to our hotel, we were finally here! We ate supper at a nearby restaurant and were happy to turn in for the evening for some much needed sleep.
