Dudley, the guest house owner, offered to drive us on the 3 hour trip to Kandy for 8,000 LKR. It would include a stop at the Old Village Spice Garden plus a lunch stop for rice & curry, of course!.
We were looking forward to being in the mountains, the spice garden region was very lush and the tour guide who took us around the Old Village described each of the plants growing habit and what it was used for. We were introduced to massage students, taking a 5 year course at the property and were asked if we would volunteer for them to practise on - a full massage - by donation... didn't have to think about that long! . We bought some roasted curry powder, fresh cinnamon sticks and massage oil.

After checking in to our guest house, we walked through this hilly town and up to
Bahiravokanda Vihara Buddha Statue for sweeping views of the area. Then a beer at the colonial Queens Hotel, a walk around Kandy Lake. Diving in to the central market to stock up on fruit on the way back!
