Trincomalee Beach |
Catching up on our laundry, we hand washed everything then left it out on the clothesline by the yoga studio. Renting a scooter for the day, we headed south to Triconmalee. Our first stop was at the Maritime and Naval History Museum and although it was normally closed on Tuesdays, we were given an enthusiastic and very informative tour, learning so much about this island country and its history as it passed from Portugese to Dutch, then British occupation.

Kandasamy Kovil |
Another rice and curry lunch then we visited Fort Frederick and Kandasamy Kovil which offered great views of the city from the headland, where they were located. We rode further south on the A6 with Marble Beach as our destination. The beach looked like a good walk on the golden sand, the surf was still a bit rough to go swimming in.
Then back towards town, stopping at the Trincomalee War Cemetery, where the war dead of 14 different nations are buried, including many Canadians.
A swim back at the resort and dinner at Leo's Café, it was time to look at the next leg of our adventure.
